The Spine of the Mountain

Emilie asserts her strategy and her outlook on landscapes in the series “The Spine of the Mountain”. She makes those photographs in the region of the Hautes Alpes, in France. Doing so, she seeks the image of mountains branded by economic collapse, often looking like weather-beaten monuments, torn by torrents.
In order to decipher and find the most fragile or moving elements of this progressively transformed environment , she is accompanied by technicians of the Agency for the Restoration of Mountain Land. They help her, during the photo sessions , by guiding her around the different places. She can thus compare her own artistic outlook with their technical vision of the landscapes and territories.
Through this process, Emilie grasps the changes of the environment appearing in the changes of architecture, an environment which has been designed and wanted by the human beings , and then transformed by time.
